Cheers! First mountain pass of the day conquered.
A roasted pig at the mercado in Cumbe.
Up, and up, and up
In the middle of nowhere, someone left a message. What does it mean?
On the opposite side of the road, a warning side. Why didn't they tell me this 34km ago?
Chased by Rain
A valley I had just left, shrouded in a rainy mist.
Fog in the Mountains
I kept expecting zombies to walk out of the mist. Shortly after this photo the rain started.
Valley between Cuenca and Loja
Back the way I came.. somewhere there is the road.
2nd summit of the day!
The exhilaration of summiting an 11,000-foot pass: something not sold in stores. Crazed look optional.
Hotel in Oña
Oña had only one hotel, this tall white building on a hill at the end of a dirt road.
I had to wait for the owner to come back from eating in town to let me in.
A view of the far side of the ravine I was to cross then climb.

Down a Pass
This was pretty steep, didn't show up in the picture :-\
Made in Saraguro, Ecuador.
Riding through the fog between Cuenca and Loja. The fog continued into dusk, and soon after I was riding in the dark.
Loja in Fog
Very grainy blurry photo of Loja at night as I dropped down from the mountain pass through the intense fog.
